Warrior Poets

In September 2016, a series workshops engaged young people in care and unaccompanied young refugees in the process of exploring their experiences and writing poetry in response.

The poems they wrote were offered to the Artistic Director Lemn Sissay, a projection artist, musician and visual artist as inspiration for the creation of a sensory landscape of projected words, poetry and imagery through which audiences were invited to wander – immersed in the stories of these young people’s lives.

Richard recorded this song for the project, with words by a young poet involved in the workshops.

He also performed the song with a full brass band, outside the Marlowe Theatre for their 5th birthday celebrations.

This video by Raph Klatzko shows artwork from Greg Stobbs and projections by Pete Wallace/Butch Auntie.

Warrior Poets was produced by Wise Words and The Marlowe Theatre and funded by Arts Council England & The Marlowe Development Trust.
